Getting accepted by a merchant account provider is an essential step for a business wishing to take payments via credit cards. Not only do they process the payments for a business they also are likely to provide the hardware and software to facilitate it.

I want to take a look at reviewing a merchant, comparing merchants and the fees to expect from a merchant account provider.

Merchant Account Provider Reviews

I have a rule that whenever I am faced with something that will cost me financially that I take the time to thoroughly look into the charges I might face. Doing merchant account provider reviews is to be recommended. I would be looking for things like reputation of the merchant, what others are saying about the merchant, competitiveness of their fees, their support system and probably most important how quickly will they transfer me my money!

Merchant Account Comparison

In looking for a good reliable merchant I would use online comparison methods first and thoroughly research at least five merchant account providers so that I have a good idea about which of them would be a good fit for my business. It would be import to me at this stage to have a check list of features that I need from them so that I know I am comparing “like with like”. I know in doing that process that I will find the best deal!

Merchant Account Fees

Unfortunately to make money by offering a credit card taking facility I wasn’t surprised to find that I have to spend money to operate the process. Unfortunately there is no way around this. Here are some of the merchant account fees that I found to be common:

Discount & transaction fees

Monthly service fees

Application fees (sometimes)

Hardware & software rental fees

Internet gateway fees

Verification Fees

Cancellation fees

Chargeback fees

Hidden fees

These are the main fees but there may be others so I know this is one occasion that I must read the small print very carefully before committing to a contract. In particular I found users online of these services were caught out on the small print when cancelling their merchant account provider contact.

Obtaining an account with a merchant account provider I found wasn’t that difficult. It takes a little time to complete the research into them but I was confident that in doing that process and looking at things like reviews on the merchants and comparing their service and fees that I would be well informed to make the right choice for my business in the long run.

Credit card processing software (sometimes referred to as credit card tracking software) is an essential service for any small business to have. Sales will be lost if the business does not offer a credit card facility for their customers.

First of all I will be looking at why I think a business should use credit card software, what the software does and what features are important to a small business. It’s important to understand the basics before deciding on the software.

Why is Credit Card Processing Software Important to a Small Business?

I believe that today customers almost expect that any credible business will provide a credit card facility for them. By not doing that in my opinion sales will almost certainly be lost! Fortunately it’s very easy these days to make accepting credit cards an easy process for a small business. I believe it’s wise to consider credit card software reviews prior to making a solid business decision.

What Type of Credit Card Management Software is Available?

There are several different options of card software solutions. For bricks and mortar type business’s I found that cards can be accepted using specialist point of sale terminals some of which are wireless. Another alternative is to install the credit card processing software onto a PC. It’s simple enough to add a credit card swipe device to the PC for easy card processing.

Business owners that are on the Internet with a website will need to take orders using credit card processing software connecting through to their merchant via an online shopping cart.

What Features Should the Software Have?

To determine exactly the needs I find it’s important to first look at the business type and match the features from the list below:

Customer database facility

Recurring billing

User permissions

Connection via the Internet

Connection via a phone line and modem

Wireless connection

Integration with the business accounts package

Option to add a credit card swipe device

Shopping cart facility

Being able to accept payments with credit card management software is vital if a business wants to remain competitive in the market place. I found that it is actually quite a simple process to set up once the actual needs of the business are considered and taken into account when looking for the right credit card processing software for the business.

Total Merchant Services (TMS) is a company that offers credit card merchant services to businesses.

For a business looking to start a relationship with a merchant I feel it’s important to find out all about the merchant before entering into any long term contracts that may be difficult to get out of should there be a need to. I’ve put together a short review, along with looking at the complaints and scam experiences that some past customers talk of.

Total Merchant Services Review (TMS)

For a start let me tell you what I found about the services that the company has to offer. TMS are said to pride themselves on service and support issues provided to their customers. They offer low processing rates and fees that seem to be competitive in the market place. Cash taken through the cards is quickly deposited in the business accounts following sale, I saw that this usually happens in a couple of days.

I discovered that the company provides point of sale credit card terminal processing like you would find at tills, along with ecommerce solutions and wireless credit card processing capabilities.

Total Merchant Services Scam

There certainly seems to be a small element of discussion relating to scam tactics by TMS. The people concerned perhaps have more in the way of grievances with the credit card processing company rather than their tactics being actually scam based.

Total Merchant Services Complaints

I found that there are several past customers who do claim that they have suffered financially at the hands of TMS. Most of the complaints seem to stem from when a customer cancels the agreement with TMS.

One customer’s comments were along the lines that monthly payments continued after the customer had cancelled their account. Another customer spoke of charges relating to a broken terminal that wasn’t covered under the TMS terms or insurance.

Other past customers of TMS suggested that it is wise to properly read the terms and conditions of the contract prior to signing the agreement so that there are no nasty financial surprises, especially if needing to end the contract.

It seems that Total Merchant Services offer an affordable merchant services option for a small business. Judging by past customer comments it may be wise to check very carefully any documentation that requires a signature, or there may be some financial costs that could come as a shock.

Wireless credit card machines for small businesses are an absolute godsend. I personally like the ability to use my card whenever I’m spending a significant amount of money. So I would think that business’s who don’t accept card payments are losing out financially. A wireless credit card machine looks to be a very simple method to start easily processing card payments.

Wireless Credit Card Processing – How Does it Work?

I found that whilst researching the use of wireless credit card machines that the unit operates remotely sending an encrypted connection to the merchant using a 3G, CDMA or GSM connection, these are basically communication systems for mobile devices. It’s important to know that customers card information is kept safe, which it is using this sort of connection.

Why Use Wireless Credit Card Machines?

The ability to have a wireless terminal offers huge benefits over fixed terminal credit card machines. If I had a business that is service based visiting homeowners to fix the plumbing or do some other sort of repairs I would be reassured to know that my repairman would not be returning without the payment as I can send a wireless terminal with him.

Some other types of business where having wireless credit card processing is beneficial include:

Builders

Electricians

Taxi Drivers & Limousine Hire

Sales Representatives

Outdoor Markets

Not only is there the convenience, a business offering a wireless credit card machine facility immediately adds credibility to itself.

Cell Phone Credit Card Machines

Technology has moved on quickly in this area and it is now possible to use a regular cell phone handset to process credit card payments. To use a cell phone to transmit the encrypted data the information is simply entered using the phones regular keypad.

To speed up the process even more and eliminate data entry errors then an optional card swipe unit may be attached to the cell phone. Customers can be assured that the data sent is transmitted very securely using encryptions methods. So their private information is kept totally safe at all times.

Having the ability to accept payments by using wireless credit card machines for a small business is I think vital in today’s ultra competitive marketplaces. Not only that; having a merchant account adds credibility to the business. I found whilst researching the use of wireless credit card machines that I was reassured to find data encryption protects the customers vital information from getting into the wrong hands which has to be paramount!

Mobile Credit Card Processing… Well Worth Considering

Depending on your business model, mobile credit card processing may be a worthwhile option in terms of efficiencies.

There are many options available for the small business owner, and today, the acceptance of credit cards is absolutely necessary to the growth and prosperity of your business.

Mobile credit card processing is fast becoming one of the most necessary and convenient means of accepting credit cards, and the equipments and processing options offered with these merchant accounts allow freedom and a way of growing revenue without losing valuable time in the office or at home.

Mobile options for accepting charges will usually include anything from the simplest of telephone or Internet confirmations to specialized online equipment that you can keep in your vehicle with you.

Mobile credit card processing offers a great deal of freedom to the worker while affording convenience and confidence of services to the customer or client.

With these types of options, everyone from the florist to the pizza delivery company to the roadside emergency expert can offer a safe, fast, and easy way of paying for the services rendered, and the business owner is offered a greater amount of security by having payment confirmed before leaving the scene.

You can find out about all of the equipment options available to you through your research and interviewing processes.

When searching online for a merchant account offering that suits your business needs, you should also check with your personal bank or the one which holds your current business accounts.

As long as your business is licensed and you have been in good standing with the bank thus far, you are likely to find the best rates and fees through this financial institution.

Because the bank will usually release all funds to you before receiving them from the credit card company, the bank wants to ensure that you will not be prone to charge backs or any other type of potentially costly or fraudulent activities.

Your questions to potential merchant account banks should include the amount of money that you will be expected to pay toward equipment, if that is the way that you choose to go.

Because there are cheaper options for mobile credit card processing, you will want to make sure that you are completely informed on the things that you will need to know about timing, processing, authorizations, and other details that will help you to make the best decisions.

Next, you will want to ask the same questions to your entire list of potential banks before making your informed decision.

Mobile credit card processing makes life easier for everyone, and that is something that is nearly a priceless commodity in a day and age of hectic work schedules and family lives.

Some merchants choose to do all of their credit card processing at the close of each business day when there is no equipment involved. This can be a good idea, but will ensure that you have received a valid payment before losing contact with the customer. You will have to come up with a process that works well for you and the nature of your business

Now days, small business credit card processing facilities are an absolute necessity just to keep with your competitors.

Small business credit card processing can be extremely expensive for the business owner, and there are many laws and regulations in place that will not allow for the business to pass along these costs to the consumer.

These services are often referred to as merchant services and are extremely important to the survival of businesses today, as most of the population prefers to use credit as their main form of payment.

There are many options available to the small business owner in the form of machines and processing equipment, as well as online processing without equipment and telephone options.

Anyone who invoices customers or who offers receipts for goods or services will need to realize that the vast majority of their customer base wants to have the option of using a credit card if they want to.

Though some businesses survive without the use of credit card machines or processing, this type of success is very remote and is most likely short lived. There are many cases where consumers will walk away from a store or service that does not accept credit, especially when the services offered are not cheap.

It is not that difficult to gain small business credit card processing services or equipment, and the fees that you will be charged should be the main criteria for your search.

Most companies find that their own banks where their personal or business accounts already exist can be the cheapest and easiest places from which to source these services.

Your bank doesn’t want you to go elsewhere for anything financial, so they tend to keep their fees low and manageable.

You will also be offered a greater discount on equipment and machinery if you choose to go that route with your credit card processing options. Many businesses, especially those that are mobile in nature, prefer to confirm all credit card purchases instantly either online or via the telephone so that equipment is never needed.

A few of the other options that you might want to check out include the third party processor, with which you are offered freedom from having to deal with paperwork confirmations, processing, and authorizations.

This type of small business credit card processing service can be a bit pricey, but is ultimately a very convenient and foolproof way to ensure that you are covered and that your time is not taken up by the meticulous and detailed processes yourself.

Your business needs to be a legitimate and established one in order for you to qualify for small business credit card processing.

This is because the bank or provider that supports you and places the credit card payments into your account does not want to be liable for any mistakes or ill practices on your behalf. You will need to be established and your business officially licensed in order to get a merchant services account.

Do plenty of research regarding fees and equipments, as well as time delays between processing and payment. This will help you to get the best deal.
